Meet Xavier R, Science Tutor From Memphis!

Meet Xavier, he is one of our Memphis tutors who tutors in several science subjects as well as English and math. He graduated from Xavier University where he majored in biology on the pre-med track. He recently graduated from Tulane University with a Master's degree in Neuroscience. Read below to find out more about his experience as tutor!

Frog Tutoring: Why did you choose to become a tutor for Frog Tutoring?
Xavier: I chose FrogTutoring because as a company, it emphasizes the mentoring aspect of tutoring. As a tutor for FrogTutoring, I understand my role is not just to teach the student, but to also act as a caring mentor in order to help ensure the student’s success in any endeavors he or she undertakes. I became a tutor to help those struggling with difficult subjects or standardized tests so that they might reach their full potential.  My goal in tutoring is to build confidence in the subject matter that is giving the student trouble as well as a natural curiosity in the subject so that the student begins to truly enjoy learning.

FT: What has been one of your most memorable experiences at FrogTutoring so far?
Xavier: One of the students I tutored initially lacked an interest in learning. It was difficult for her to study alone and pay attention in class. After a few tutoring sessions, the student told me she now enjoyed learning. Not only did the students’ grades improve in the subject that was giving her difficulty, but also in the rest of her classes. This experience was truly rewarding because I knew I had positively influenced her.

FT: If you could give a piece of advice to your students and other FrogTutoring students, what would it be?
Xavier: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.”-Jimmy JohnsonA little extra effort goes a long way. Put your all into whatever you do, and you will surely reap the rewards.

FT: If you could have any person (living, dead, or fictional) as a tutor, who would it be and why?
Xavier: I would choose Albert Einstein because he possessed a wealth of knowledge but believed in explaining concepts in the simplest fashion. In addition, he believed true success comes in servicing others.

FT: You’re a tutor in Memphis, TN. What do you think is your must do/see experience in Memphis?
Xavier: If you are in Memphis, you must take part in the Memphis in May festivities. It is fun for all ages.

In case you didn't know, Xavier was nominated for tutor of the month back in January, and he created this video to relate his experience at FrogTutoring:
