Fun Facts

I love traveling, hanging out with kids, and math. Last summer I got to be an au pair in Madrid, Spain. I ended up getting placed in a family with 2 math-enthused parents, leading to the best summer ever. I got to travel Spain, while tutoring and babysitting 2 awesome kids!

About Me

I am an incoming senior at the University of San Diego in the honors program, with a major in applied mathematics as well as minors in Spanish and economics. I am currently studying for the first two actuary exams, and hope to pursue a career in the actuarial sciences. I plan on graduating in spring 2015 and apply the logical problems solving skills acquired through math in my professional career.

I have been working for the University of San Diego's athletics department as a math tutor for 1 year, about 10-15 hours a week. I have loved the experience of helping fellow students with math. Mostly I enjoy showing math doesn't have to be pulling teeth, it's actually really useful! I have individual as well as group appointments set on a weekly basis, in which we go through the topics they are confused about.

Math is the single most useful tool we possess for problem solving. The beauty of math lies in the fact that it is logic, it follows from one step to the next. When working through problems, I force students to answer why they can perform each step. Only through organized logical thought can the student learn math. Once students learn to think like this, it is a very applicable skill in all subjects. Therefore my approach is to guide students to an organized process of logic, through their own justification of each step. Math is a subject that must be learned and not memorized. Learning occurs through critical thought and repetition: both of which I am passionate about showing to all students.
