Fun Facts

I love roller skating and even belong to a roller derby league! It's a very exciting sport that isn't quite like the movies but can still get pretty dangerous.

About Me

I am studying for my Master's in Forensic Linguistics at Hofstra University. I specialized in Linguistics for my Bachelor's in English and learned a lot about languages and how they work and evolve. I also have my Bachelor's in French and earned my TEFL certificate so that I may teach English as a second or foreign language.

Experience

I have experience working with students of all ages from elementary school to college. In the younger range, I've worked with bilingual students aged 7 to 10 in an after-school program that helped with reading and writing skills. I also held office hours for my college Linguistics department to help college students with English grammar and other aspects of the language.

Approach

I've always been able to pick up new and difficult subjects with ease. My brain finds shortcuts and more comprehensible ways to explain things so that I can help others who may still be struggling to understand. I believe that the best way to check if you've learned something is to teach it to someone else, and luckily I enjoy doing both! I do my best to make sure my students understand any given subject while gently guiding them in the right direction so that they can find the answers on their

English Tutoring

I have a bachelor's degree in English and have extensively studied the various ins and outs of the language. This includes reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, syntax, pragmatics, and more. I have received As in all of my English related courses and have even tutored fellow students in English grammar.

French Tutoring

I am a straight A student and have been studying French for over 10 years, amounting in a Bachelor's in French. I have therefore learned how to speak, read, and write French at various levels. I have actively participated in my school's French clubs offering culturally engaging activities and tutoring opportunities for students during testing season.

ESL Tutoring

As part of my Bachelor's degree program in English, I was required to choose a specialization and I chose Linguistics. I took several Linguistics courses that taught me how languages work, particularly first and second language acquisition. This allowed me to pursue a TESL/TEFL certificate which certifies me to teach English as a second or foreign language.

AP English Tutoring

I have taken both AP English Lit and Lang and passed both with a 5 and 4 respectively. I have always had a passion for English and have excelled in it from a young age. I enjoy reading and writing and have received high marks while balancing several other difficult subjects.

Math Tutoring

Math has been one of my favorite subjects for a long time and I have always excelled at it. Since it is a notoriously difficult subject, my peers have often sought me out for my simplified explanations and homework help. I have found math to be easiest to tutor sometimes given that there is typically only one answer and the numbers can be applied to a wide range of things. For example, thinking about math in the context of money or a student's area of interest makes the problems more relatable and easy to understand.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I acted as an English tutor for an eighth grade classroom. A lot of the course material involved reading short stories or articles and answering comprehension questions. I would facilitate group work in the classroom and ensure students were reading and understanding the assigned text. This often included vocabulary lessons and breaking down the reading into smaller, easier to digest portions.

Writing Tutoring

I was involved in an after school program that assigned college students to multilingual elementary school students to assist in writing and reading comprehension. We would play educational games and make easy to read instruction pamphlets for the students. At the end of the day, students would write about what we did.
