I am a huge film buff, fan of games as art, and enjoyer of all things manga, anime, and Japanese popular culture! I can strike up long conversations about any of these three topics.

About Me

I am a Master’s and Bachelor's graduate from Arizona State University. My BA was in Film and Media Studies with an emphasis on analyzing and writing about film, and my MA is in Liberal Studies. I have several years of experience as a Teaching Assistant for Film and Media Studies courses at my alma mater, as a K-12 English tutor and Essay Reviewer for Paper.co and BookNook.com, and as a Writing Tutor at Maricopa Community Colleges.

Experience

As a Teaching Assistant for four years at Arizona State University and as a Writing Tutor at Chandler-Gilbert Community College's writing center, I have extensive experience working very closely with college students on workshopping and providing feedback on college-level writing assignments. Additionally, through my work at Paper.co and BookNook.com, I have extensive experience both providing feedback on K-12 student writing assignments and also live sessions with K-12 students.

Approach

My many years as a tutor and mentor across my various positions have helped me refine a positive reinforcement-focused approach to feedback. My two core principles as a tutor are positive feedback first before constructive advice, and tailoring lesson plans that can relate the subject matter or assignment to the student. I strongly believe that students develop their skills and show demonstrable growth the most when what they do well already is emphasized first.
