One thing most people don't know I'm passionate about is painting! I painted digitally for years before taking oil painting classes and falling in love with the medium.

About Me

I am an incoming Freshman at Loyola Marymount University majoring in pure mathematics. I chose my major because of my love for explaining math. While applied math uses math for an indicated result, pure math focuses on a deep analytical understanding of existing math knowledge to fuel new theories and discoveries. This passion, not just for math but for a fundamental understanding of the concepts, has made tutoring a natural path for me in my high school and now college career.

Experience

In my high school career, I often helped out peers before becoming a tutor with my school's math center. I worked one-on-one with a student in AP Calculus AB and took drop-ins from students in Algebra, Geometry, and Precalculus. This past May, I volunteered for 50 hours as a Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry tutor at Burgundy Farm Country Day School.

Approach

Standard math curricula too often use complex language when explaining novel ideas, which often leaves students feeling lost when they have to apply them. In my experience, the single most important aspect of learning math is an understanding of what each operation is doing and how each concept fits together. By putting a greater focus on connections between concepts and building an understanding for the solutions behind them, a strong intuition for the subject can be built.
