After my calculus 3 lessons, I would create shortcuts to calculate and solve problems significantly faster than the traditional method that takes an entire page to solve. I constantly test the shortcut to see if it stays consistent or if there are any exceptions to the rule.

I've been tutoring people of all ages different levels of math for over 5 years. I find that students tend to struggle trigonometry due to the long list of theorems, postulates, and axioms. It's very easy to them up. The way I teach trigonometry is to treat it like any other math class while creating a list of the reason why I solved it in that order.
