Fun Facts

I spend my free time painting, reading, cooking, and singing along to Joni Mitchell songs (to my roommate's dismay).

About Me

I am a evolutionary biology graduate student at Saint Louis University. I graduated from SLU in 2015 with an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering. After completing my masters, I plan to join the Teach for America program and become a high school science teacher.

Experience

I joined a service organization my freshman year of college that gave students the opportunity to complete 30 hours of volunteer work per semester at various sites. Service experience relevant to this position included tutoring and youth mentoring programs conducted through De La Salle middle school, Covenant House, and Shearwater high school. Currently, I teach approximately 60 college freshmen students an introductory level biology laboratory.

Approach

I aim to inspire curiosity. In my high school science courses, I often found myself frustrated because I felt we were memorizing a series of disconnected facts in order to perform well on exams. I found success in college by learning to organize my thought processes into a narrative. I've been inspired seek information outside the regular curriculum, and hope that I might help my students find the motivation to do that as well.
