Fun Facts

I am a dedicated academic. I like to explore the greater dimensions of a subject beyond what can be covered in class. Especially if this leads me to interesting characters who made great contributions to their field. Why not learn about logic from Lewis CarrolI, or about Electromagnetism from Nikola Tesla?

As a double major in German and science/california/san-francisco">computer science I also enjoy discovering applications for computing in the arts. For example, my latest program generated possible names for the band I play bass for. We eventually decided on the name Little Rock.

When I'm not playing bass or writing programs I'm out enjoying the beautiful Bay Area landscapes. I enjoy hiking through Golden Gate Park in the fog or photographing the sea from Sutro Heights. I also enjoy jogging around the shores of Lake Merritt in my new home Oakland.

About Me

I enjoy being a resource for my friends and family whenever possible. I have come to appreciate and seek out community because of my many travels. Our family moved quite a lot when I was younger and I always tried hard to make new friends in a new school. My tutoring experiences began there in high school and gave me an opportunity to introduce myself to my new classmates and to develop friendships.

After high school, I set out for Germany and began the process of making friends all over again, this time in a new language. My experiences teaching foreign students English in Germany greatly influenced who I am, and the friends I made there are among my most cherished. Wether sharing my culture and language with international friends, training new employees, teaching Capoeira classes, or providing guidance and encouragement as a camp councilor, I have been a tutor almost my entire life.

All of these experiences have helped me appreciate the challenges and rewards of making new friends in new places. I find that students often have their own stories to share and can offer new ways to broaden my own experience. I have also had success by encouraging students to approach a frustrating problem from a different perspective and by supporting new ideas with examples relevant to their individual experiences. I am excited to learn from my students and to impart the enthusiasm academic success inspires.
