Fun Facts
I am a dog person. I've never met a cookie I haven't liked. I enjoy traveling, though I've done fairly little of it. I enjoy reading, binge watching Netflix, and singing in the shower. Taylor Swift should be my best friend. I am down for a "Shake It Off" dance party anytime.
About Me
I graduated in May of 2015 from Utah State University. I received a BS degree in English with an emphasis in Secondary Education and a minor in Psychology. I earned a Utah teaching license. I hope to teach English in a middle school or high school while getting my masters in School Counseling.
Experience
I just completed a semester teaching English as a second language in China. I was responsible for my own classroom and addressed the English language on a fundamental level- which was awesome. In my clinical and student teaching experience I designed lessons to aid students at all levels in their reading and writing. I also tutored girls in all school subjects while working at a treatment center. I've also tutored in an alternative high school.
Approach
Working one-on-one with students is a wonderful opportunity. I love getting to know a child and celebrating their talents, strengths, and creativity. My goal is to provide the skills and process to help them articulate their ideas through writing. I also know the power that comes from the ability to decode text and comprehend reading. These skills are essential in every subject- not just English class! Improving their reading and writing ability will lead to greater academic confidence.

English Tutoring
I earned my BS degree in English. I took many classes focusing on literature, technical writing, and creative writing. I feel I am more qualified because I received my education degree and certification as well. I will be able to teach skills rather than just editing papers.
Writing Tutoring
I earned my BS degree in English, so I have a lot of experience writing at the collegiate level. I worked closely with professors to organize papers and make logical arguments. I also worked with our Univerisity tutoring program to help students in various core subjects with their papers.
Psychology Tutoring
I earned a minor in psychogy with a teaching emphasis. I am licencensed to teach high school level psychology. I understand the basic psychological practices, concepts, research designs, and definitions. With my education background I can help explain these concepts in a way that is not too advanced for a high school student.
Education Tutoring
I completed Utah State Univerity's STEP program last spring. I did very well in my education classes. I'm sort of a lesson planning genius. I received very positive feedback from my cooperating teacher and university supervisor during my student teaching. I also earned a great score on my English PRAXIS exam.
Literature Tutoring
I earned my English degree from USU. I completed courses in American, British, and World Literature. Regardless of which course you're taking, I can help you structure your papers and construct solid analysis of the text.
AP English Tutoring
I completed AP English as a high school student. I also earned my BS degree in English. I completed grammar, literature, and writing courses. I can also teach fundamental test taking skills to help students receive a passing score on their AP exam.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
During my education in the STEP program at Utah State University, we were introduced to many specific reading comprehension strategies. In my student teaching, I was able to put these strategies into practice. I've used reading check questions, summary exercises, graphic organizers, and metacognition. Reading comprehension is such a valuable skill in all subjects and something I'm very passionate about teaching.
Writing Advance Tutoring
Through college I studied English, and have a good foundation of vocabulary, grammar, and literature. I can also teach fundamental testing skills that will be essential for the test.
ACT English Tutoring
I earned my degree in English so I have a foundational knowledge of vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. With completing the education program I also received training in general testing skills.
ACT Reading Tutoring
I have many strategies to aid students in general reading comprehension. I can train students to use graphic organizers, and general reading processes. I can also help them practice testing skills.
