Fun Facts

Anyone who knows me knows that I can appreciate anything that involves any measure of skill. I grew up playing soccer and listening to as many different kinds of music as possible. I am very much in tune with all aspects of the human experience, from the natural sciences to the liberal arts. I am lucky to have grown up with involved parents that always motivated me to keep an open mind and to embrace diversity.

About Me

I am a senior Mathematics major at Florida International University. I have worked as an intern in four different labs at Florida International University, the University of Florida and Texas A&M in the fields of Astrophysics, High Energy Physics, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Cardiovascular Biomechanics. My main research interests lie in the application of mathematical models to physical systems, coming up with novel ways to better describe the world around us.

Experience

For the past three years I've worked as a freelance tutor helping students of all ages with their educational needs. I served as a Mathematics Enrichment aid, taking the brightest kids from elementary to middle school level and giving them special attention to reinforce their knowledge. I have also worked with veterans and seniors coming back to education in areas such as GMAT and Calculus.

Approach

Having been a Lecturer's Assistant at FIU and taking a course specifically designed to improve teaching skills, my approach is simple: put yourself in the student's shoes. It is more important to understand how to speak to someone in a way that they can easily grasp concepts rather than force them up the ivory tower. It is often the case that students are fully capable of understanding concepts but have not had any experience with general study skills and critical problem solving strategies.
