About Me

My name is Whitney Priestley and I'm from Temple City, California. I am a very outgoing and friendly person; this is why I have chosen a teaching career where I can be in constant interaction with others. I genuinely enjoy getting to know people and helping them to reach their potential. I always try my absolute best in any opportunity that comes my way. I hope I get to prove myself and have the pleasure of a job opportunity through Frog Tutoring!

I have had many tutoring experiences. One has been through my own hard work with community members at home. I taught one woman in particular who was a bit older and looking to get a job again; I helped her to gain communication skills through writing and speaking that eventually lead her to a job.
I have done one on one tutoring with a couple of junior high students for a class while attending college. For both girls I taught, I used different strategies to improve their vocabulary and reading skills. Through out this process of teaching them, I tracked both of their progress and as a result, witnessed an overall improvement.
I have also worked with a tutoring company called Little Stanford in Arcadia, California. I worked there during their after school hours helping with homework and teaching lessons everyday. Then I continued with the company through out the summer as a full time teacher; this job required me to teach lessons through out the entire day.

First, I like to get to know my student a little bit as a person. This will help me to individualize my teaching strategies to best help them succeed. I will have many strategies to help but I need to try to figure out what will best help them.
I think it is important to set a goal for each session, to try to teach them a new skill that will help them to strengthen their weaknesses.
My approach to tutoring is to break learning down into small parts; starting from the foundation, if necessary, and working our way up. I try to build learning for the individual.
