Fun Facts

I have lived, studied and worked in three continents. I grew up in China, moved to Australia when I was 16, stayed there for 4 years, and moved to the US 3 years ago. I love all the different cultures, the different people I have met, and the different food.
I also love water sports, my favorites are swimming and sea kayaking. I used to kayak in Berkeley Marina.

About Me

I am a double major in Economics and Psychology. Both are capped majors at UC Berkeley. My field is in Behavioral Economics and its applications to business, marketing, consumer analysis and management consulting.
When I graduate, I will join PwC Consulting as a full time associate.

1. At UC Berkeley, I am a student instructor who teaches a class of 45 students. I created this class, Intro to Martial Arts, three years ago under the Department of Theater, Dance and Performance of UC Berkeley.
2. For the last 3 years, I tutored AP Economics for about 2 hours a week, and College Writing for about 1 hour a week.
3. I used to tutor math in my high school.

Tutoring is a process of improvement for both the tutor and tutee. I feel that I have made a lot of impact to my tutees, of which I am very proud, but at the same time, as a tutor, I feel that I have polished my understanding of the materials and improved communication skills.

I don't think lecturing is an effective way of teaching and learning. That's partially why the education system has failed some of our bright students. I approach tutoring with two principles:
1. Student centered. I make sure that I get to know the students well, ask appropriate questions to determine what the students need and why the students need that. I will then tailor my tutoring session toward that goal, and in a manner that the students can engage in.
2. Collaborative class. There is nothing worse than having the tutor talking for an hour, and the students falling half asleep. All students have curiosity, and that's the best motivation to study. The best way to use students' curiosity is to collaborate with them. Stories/Games related to the subjects are examples.
