Fun Facts

One thing you will immediately learn about me is that I am a huge chemistry and biology nerd! I love making the connections between things I’ve learned in the classroom and every day life. I have no greater joy than learning about the world we live in! Besides this, I love being outdoors exploring with my fiancé and border collie. You can find us hiking any one of Tucson’s beautiful hiking trails. I have also recently started learning to speak Japanese which has been challenging but rewarding.

About Me

I am a graduate of the University of Arizona and I majored in molecular and cellular biology with a minor in biochemistry. During my time at the university, I have made the deans list each semester and have maintained a 3.8 GPA, putting me in the top 7.5% of seniors in the college of science. As such I was invited to join the Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi, one of the oldest and most well respected Honors Societies in the country. Furthermore I have volunteered in the neuroscience lab of Dr. Wulfila Gronenberg performing tasks such as dissection of insect neural components, data collection, and tissue staining. When I graduate I hope to go on to receive my masters degree in genetic counseling so I may help families make informed choices in treating genetic ailments.

Experience

For the last two years I have been lucky enough to tutor students in chemistry and biology through the Arizona Science Engineering and Mathematics Scholars Program (ASEMS) at the University of Arizona. This program aims to provide resources to disadvantaged students such as those who are first generation students or from low-income families. In 2019 I was voted ASEMS most outstanding tutor by the students.

Approach

I think everyone has the ability to understand difficult subjects. While the information can be dense and confusing, I find that if we can break down complicated concepts in to more digestible ideas then we can begin to form a solid foundation for which the student can feel confident in proceeding with their education. We can do this by making the information more relatable to the student. The goal is to simplify the models we use to teach while maintaining accuracy in our problem solving.
