Fun Facts

One unique thing about me is that I love to dive. No, I don't mean scuba diving (although that is fun), I dive of off spring boards and platforms up to 10m high! I am a thrill seeker, so I love any outdoor activity and adventure. I also enjoy traveling. When I was 12 my family traveled the U.S. in our RV for 3 months. I love music and was in my high school show choir.

About Me

I am originally from New Mexico and recently graduated from Stanford University in June, 2013. I received a B.A. in Human Biology. While at Stanford, I was captain of the women's Varsity Diving team for two years. I am currently in the process of studying for the MCAT and applying to medical school. My ultimate goal is to become a Pediatric Surgeon.

As a member of the National Honors Society I tutored students in various subjects throughout my senior year of high school. In college, I was eager to get involved, so I volunteered to organize creative weekly science projects with children in a nearby elementary school. I also mentored a class for freshmen student athletes at Stanford to help them find and utilize campus resources and network with professors. I also shared my passion for sports by coaching elementary school children soccer, basketball, and swimming at the nearby Boys and Girls Club.

Through my experiences, I have learned that it is hard to grasp a subject if there is no connection between the written material and how it is applied in real life situations. As a tutor, I like to help students make these connections so that not only do they learn and remember the material better, but they also understand why it is important. As the saying goes, "practice makes perfect" but only as long as the student is working through their problems and challenges themselves rather than simply being given the answers. I think it is critical that the tutor creates a positive and encouraging environment that promotes curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
