Fun Facts

I am named after Liesel from the Sound of Music. Despite my small stature, I have been a security guard and dispatcher for the UM Police Department, where I have helped deal with emergencies and criminal activity. When I am not at work or school, I volunteer at the Humane Society playing with young cats and dogs.

About Me

I am currently a senior at the miami">University of Miami, with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. I have a 3.977 GPA. Next year I plan on attending medical school at Tufts University. My ultimate goal is to work in specialized pediatrics. During my undergrad experience at UM I have been involved in Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and participated in the General Honors Program since my freshman year.

I was a workshop leader in chemistry for two semesters, where I taught inorganic chemistry to a group of college students. I also have one-on-one miami">tutoring experience with student athletes as part of the Athletic/Academic Program at miami">University of Miami, where I taught athletes in introductory math, Spanish, and sociology. I have taught groups of elementary-school students to master fractions and decimals in a special after-school program started by AP high school students. Further, I am a pre-health mentor at the miami">University of Miami, where my role is to help pre-med students maintain productive study habits and extracurricular activities necessary for entrance into medical school.

While every client is different, and therefore must be tutored in a slightly modified way, I typically like to set small written goals for the client, with the big overall goal at the very end of the paper (for instance, a certain score or improvement level). I believe that the achievement of small goals bit by bit allows students to not get as discouraged and frustrated that they are not seeing the end result immediately. My miami">tutoring style is a combination of content presentation/understanding and of the modification of study habits.
