Fun Facts

The first thing you should know about me is that I absolutely love being outside. I love to hike, backpack, camp, kayak, and do pretty much anything to be in fresh air. I have two cats that I love dearly (Fido and Leaf) and I love being around animals. I also love to read, bake, and do any sort or craft that I can. Any way that I can be creative makes me happy.

About Me

I recently graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education. I made the Dean's List each semester and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I completed my student teaching in an eighth grade English class and I have experience subbing in elementary school. I have a huge passion for English, Literature, and Writing.

Experience

I completed my student teaching in eighth grade, which was an excellent experience. I have been substitute teaching since graduation and I have a lot of experience working with kids. For three summers, I worked at a camp with kids ages 4-17. I worked with every age group at one point or another, but I worked mostly with teenagers as I was in charge of a leadership program called J-Staff. In addition, I volunteered at an after-school art program for 3rd-5th graders and I have work in preschool.

Approach

In all of my experience with children, I find that most kids are capable of learning and working hard if they are given the right tools. Often it just takes someone slowing down, explaining what they need to do, and giving them guidance along the way. Students are very capable, they just need to understand that fact. As a tutor, I believe it is my job to give students tools, guidance, and encouragement to help them figure out how to succeed.
