Meet Our Sacramento Math & Science Tutor, Katherine K!

In this tutor spotlight, we are featuring Katherine K., one of our Sacramento, California tutors. Katherine is currently a senior at California State University-Sacramento. She is majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Teacher Education. This three-part spotlight features an interview with Katherine, her student Grayson, and Grayson's mother Ronda. Read below to find out more about their experience with Frog Tutoring!

Frog Tutoring: Why did you choose to become a tutor for Frog Tutoring?
Katherine: I chose to start tutoring with Frog Tutoring because I saw it as an opportunity to grow and expand my experience as a tutor. I was in a tutoring class when Frog Tutoring contacted my instructor about the opportunity for tutors to apply. I applied and was happy to be hired. Being with Frog Tutoring has allowed me to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone and grow as a person and as a tutor.

FT: What has been one of your most memorable experiences at FrogTutoring so far?
Katherine: My most memorable experience was when a parent texted me just to say thank you and that their student gets a lot out of working with me. Improved grades are great, but knowing that I have made a impact on a student is better than getting 100% on an exam.

FT: If you could give a piece of advice to your students and other FrogTutoring students, what would it be?
Katherine: Never limit yourself. Never think, "I can't do that." If you start to think negatively, you stop trying as hard and you will never reach your full potential. It's a crime when students, especially young students, get it in their head that they can't do something, because then they are never able to give their best effort and see what they are actually capable of. So always approach a problem, topic, or class with an open mind and a positive attitude.

FT: If you could have any person (living, dead, or fictional) as a tutor, who would it be and why?
Katherine: Thomas Edison. I have always looked up to Thomas Edison because of a story I heard about when he was inventing the light bulb. Someone asked him if he ever got discouraged after he failed to learn how to create the light bulb. He replied, "I haven't failed 1000 times; I've learned 1000 ways that don't work." This taught me that not succeeding can be just as educational as succeeding. It means that you should always learn something, even if you don't get the "right" answer. And sometimes you can even learn more from your mistakes than from getting that right answer.

FT: You’re a tutor in Sacramento, CA. What do you think is your must do/see experience in Sacramento?
Katherine: Old Sacramento is definitely the must see attraction for Sacramento. It's a place with a great environment to explore with friends or family.

Frog Tutoring: What brought you to Frog Tutoring in particular?
Ronda:  I found FrogTutoring online. It was the only place I could find high level help for my son who is taking AP classes. The other tutoring centers are focused on students below grade level and cognitive processes.

FT: Do you believe Katherine has helped Grayson achieve his educational objectives?
Ronda: Katherine has helped my son go from an F in Chemistry to a C as well as raised his PreCalculus grade. He said that he was finally understanding the concepts.

FT: How would you personally rate FrogTutoring in terms of professionalism, attitude, and commitment on the part of the tutors?
Ronda: FrogTutoring is so easy!  I can book the sessions online and pay through the website. From the first call I made to find a tutor to Katherine coming to our house we have been impressed. She is on time, professional and courteous. Most of all she works with my son in a polite, encouraging manner.

FT: Would you recommend FrogTutoring to your friends and family?
Ronda: I would highly recommend FrogTutoring. We love it!!

Frog Tutoring: How has your tutor helped you with your studying and learning skills?
Grayson:  Katie has helped me with all my homework and gives me advice, tips and strategies to help me on tests.

FT: What was your study method before meeting your tutor, and what is it like now? What would you say are the best things your tutor does to help you learn?
Grayson: Before I didn't know how to study effectively. Katie has taught me different ways of remembering the material and how to review for tests.

FT: How has your tutor influenced your motivation to do your homework?
Grayson: Katie has made studying easier and actually made it fun to get my work done. I appreciate all her help.
