Fun Facts

Something you might notice about me is that I love arts and crafts. Drawing, painting, constructing, creating are all right up my alley! Any fun and messy activity that gets the mind and body going is ideal for a great time, especially for kids!

About Me

I am a UT College of Education student, currently undergoing my student internship semesters. I am a senior graduating May 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Education and teacher certification. I'm so excited to be student teaching in my last semester! I have been an honors student for two years consecutively, and I don't plan on losing my streak! My goal is to attend grad school here at UT Austin for STEM Education, which is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Education.

Experience

In high school, I worked as a TA at my church and had experience with 6-14 year old students in my 3 years at the church. In college, I began austin">tutoring students as a volunteer for Victory Tutorials. Here, I worked with students from 1st to 9th grade. As a junior in college, I worked as a LA, or Learning Assistant in a series of college courses called the Hands On Science courses. These classes cover inquiry-based science instruction. Now I am a student intern in elementary schools in AISD.

Approach

Based on what I have learned in my classes at UT, I have adjusted my instruction to be student-centered and inquiry based. I believe learning should not follow the traditional structure of giving facts and filling students' knowledge banks, but learning comes from student curiosity and questioning. Students will learn through exploring the meaningful and relevant things around them, and constructing their own ideas and concepts rather than memorizing things that the instructor tells them.
