Fun Facts
I am a keen blogger and I write about technological, social and political issues. I also enjoy long distance running and completed the New Forest Marathon (UK) in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
I also really enjoy public speaking and I competed in debating competitions whilst studying for my Masters at King's College London.
One of my favorite hobbies, though, is painting. In particular I enjoy painting and drawing portraits. My favorite medium is water colors. Someday I would love to masters oils.
About Me
I am a freelance industry researcher working remotely (while living in Austin) for a British research and events company, having recently moved from Britain to live in Texas with my husband. I have received my Green Card with full U.S. work authorization. I write industry reports including reports on the mobile and fixed-line telecommunications industry. I have a BA in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries from King’s College London
Experience
I worked part time as an English austin">tutor around my King's College London Masters program. I taught 15-17 year old students in two inner city London schools, working as a volunteer for an educational London based charity called Action austin">Tutoring. I also have worked as a private English austin">tutor while working full time as an industry researcher. This involved teaching students between the ages of 13-17 years, both in person and through online austin">tutoring. My students were of mixed ability.
Approach
I go over the basics and ensure that they are fully understood before moving onto new topics. I also think that doing timed assessments is vital to improving grades. I attempt to incorporate a significant amount of timed practice questions into my austin">tutoring sessions. I also believe in rotating topics in each lesson rather than spending one lesson studying only one topic. I find this approach the best for helping students learn. I also have experience teaching students with dyslexia.

Study Skills Tutoring
Having studied at the University of Cambridge doing a Humanities subject (Social Anthropology) I feel that I am able to teach effective essay planning, reading, note taking and time management. During my degree I was required to produce one to two essays a week. Therefore, I am aware of how important it is to optimize your study time when you have deadlines. My students also find my lessons very helpful for preparing for exams. I have found that often students lose marks because they had not practiced and refined their exam technique. My lessons emphasis planning for exams, including deciding how much time to spend on each question and deciding what questions to answer.
Writing Advance Tutoring
Having studied a Humanities subject in my first degree and for my Masters and having to produce 10,000 and 12,000 word dissertations for those courses, respectively, I have strong essay planning skills. I feel confident that I can improve most students essay writing which typically requires them being taught more effective essay structuring techniques. I have found when tutoring students that often it is the case that they have not planned their essays well. Their grades suffer not because they do not have good ideas or have done thorough research but because their essays lack a coherent argument.

I also encourage post reading strategies to better understand and retain information provided in texts including summarizing and paraphrasing.

As part of my BA in Social Anthropology I studied world religions so I feel that I can help with students' understanding of religious systems and any papers or timed assessments in this subject.
