Fun Facts

I am new to New York, but I love the big city life. I'm from Los Angeles, but I've learned that things out here are totally different than on the west coast, and I enjoy going out every weekend to explore different parts of the Big Apple. In addition to New York, I have also explored Mexico, Argentina, Laos, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Madagascar, and, this summer, I will be living in Mongolia for two months!

About Me

I am a first year at Columbia University working towards a BA in political science. At the school, I am involved in the newspaper Columbia Daily Spectator, where I write for the features section, and I am a part of Columbia University's Swing Dance Club. I plan on either studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country my junior year or spending my sophomore and junior years going to school in France. After graduating, my dream is to become an international journalist.

Experience

During a gap year I took between high school and college, I had the opportunity to lead weekly English classes for 11 weeks at a rural village school near Bali, Indonesia. Prior to that experience, I spent two summers as a teacher's assistant at a summer school program for rising fourth and fifth grade students at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California. There, I helped students study math, art, science, music, Spanish, and P.E.

Approach

Having been a student my whole life, I have learned that not everyone can be taught the same thing the same way. What makes sense to one student may not to another simply because of the different ways in which they understand the world. Therefore, as a tutor, I work to familiarize myself with each student's particular style of learning so that I can adapt my lessons into a form that is easily understood by the student.
