Fun Facts
Two fun facts about me that are completely unrelated, but I love animals and football! I have a dog and two cats and have pulled for the Chicago Bears my entire life. I have also lived in five states: Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Being mostly raised in Virginia, I am a history buff and love visiting Washington D.C. or other historical attractions; especially those involving our Founding Fathers.
About Me
I am a senior English Education student at NC State and look forward to graduating in May. Although I have lived in North Carolina for the past sixteen years, I was mostly raised in Virginia. I love reading and I love what books can bring to us. I also love exploring ways we can express ourselves through writing. I am constantly thinking of ways to make material relevant and interesting to students so that they can make connections and retain what they're learning. jkrivensky81@weebly.com.
Experience
I am currently a student teacher of 9th grade English. I tutor here and there and recently worked with a student with reading competency issues going into high school. I am also far enough along in my schooling to have a bunch of academic experience under my belt. I not only tutor but am the go-to person my friends use when they have to write a paper or complete a major English assignment. I enjoy proofreading and helping develop papers into successful assignments.
Approach
My approach with tutoring is to make information connect to things students are interested in. If a student loves music, how can I use that to help them learn to write? I try to incorporate technology to add differentiation and steer away from the typical, mundane worksheets. There are a lot of learning styles out there today and it's hard to provide differentiation in every classroom. By working 1-on-1, I can hopefully help students learn by connecting to their personal schemas.

Qualifications I have in this area include American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Language and Writing (Linguistics), Shakespeare, African American Literature and Poetry. I have also completed courses in teaching, teaching writing and assessment. I am currently a 9th grade English Student Teacher.
Literature Tutoring
I have taken American Literature at Wake Technical Community College as well as British Literature, African American Literature, Shakespeare, World Literature (Contemporary and a Heaven and Hell literature course), Film and Literature and Poetry at North Carolina State University. I have received completed all of these courses with my lowest grade being an A-.
Writing Tutoring
I am familiar with MLA and APA writing styles and have much experience writing papers in both. I have completed a teaching writing course as well as a Language and Writing course. I have also completed a Literacy in the US course that will benefit in my approach to teaching writing.
AP English Tutoring
I have completed courses in American Literature, English Literature, World Literature, African American Literature, Shakespeare and Poetry. I have also completed courses in teaching (pedagogy practices), teaching writing and assessment. I am proficient in MLA and APA writing styles and currently student teach 9th Grade English.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I am currently a student at NC State University and student teach 9th grade English as well as a 9th grade Reading Competency course. I have completed courses in literacy as well as teaching courses that have taught me how to use different strategies to teach reading comprehension including active reading activities.
