As a young child, the world around us is filled with endless possibilities and untapped potential. For some, this curiosity manifests itself in the form of creative play, where everyday objects become tools for innovation and imagination. Such was the case for one budding scientist, whose early experiments with Legos and Mindstorm components laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of scientific discovery. It all began with a simple idea: a lap desk that could automatically illuminate when a book was placed upon its surface. While the motivation behind this invention may have been the mischievous desire to read past bedtime, it revealed an innate ability to identify problems and devise ingenious solutions. This early project demonstrated the power of combining seemingly unrelated components to create something entirely new and functional.
As the years passed, this young innovator's interests evolved, shifting from the realm of plastic bricks to the microscopic world of living organisms. High school biology classes opened up a whole new frontier of exploration, where the building blocks of life could be manipulated and studied in ways that were both thrilling and profound. The moment of transformation came when the aspiring researcher successfully engineered E. coli cells to express the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene. Witnessing the bacteria glow with an otherworldly luminescence was a turning point, revealing the incredible potential of genetic engineering and biotechnology. This experience ignited a deep-seated passion for unraveling the mysteries of the microbial world and harnessing its power for the betterment of humanity.
From that point forward, the once-mischievous child had grown into a determined and driven young scientist, eager to explore the limitless possibilities that lay ahead. Armed with an insatiable curiosity and a newfound appreciation for the elegance and complexity of biological systems, they embarked on a journey of scientific discovery that would shape the course of their academic and professional life. My life experiences above shaped me into a researcher and instilled in me a profound desire to teach. The most important aspect of tutoring and teaching is nurturing and encouraging the natural curiosity and creativity of students. Curiosity and creativity are the driving forces behind human progress and the purpose of education is to allow these traits to flourish in students, enabling them to develop their own solutions to the problems they encounter, whether academic or personal. As an educator, I hope to inspire and guide the next generation of innovators, knowing that within each and every student lies the potential for world-changing discoveries and innovations, just waiting to be unlocked.
Here is a little bit about what I currently do. I have been a biology and chemistry tutor at the college level for the past 4 years. Starting in my Sophomore year of high school, I enrolled in a local community college to begin my college education early. My microbiology professor during my second semester requested I become a biology tutor for the college and recommended me to supervisors with the tutoring department. Since then, I have been connecting with students and sharing my passion for these subjects.
The college where I started my education is also where I began my research journey. I study bacterial immune systems such as CRISPR and present my work at regional and international microbiology conferences. Now at the University level, I have been publishing in scientific journals discoveries which I hope one day will lead to advances in medicine! Here I am presenting research on the CRISPR Cas10 protein at a microbiology conference below.
I'm thrilled to begin tutoring at FrogTutoring and look forward to helping students achieve their utmost potential.
