A colleague of mine during my tutoring days at Texas A&M University - Texarkana (TAMUT) once told me that the reason a lot of students don't demand tutoring help in biology-based courses was because students simply have to memorize their study materials to pass their tests. Yes, Biology is a subject that requires a great deal of memorization, but memorization materials are futile without the understanding of it. My colleague failed to realize that biology is one of the most complex subjects in education, and it requires individual break down of its underlying parts to be fully understood as a whole.

Over the course of my 3 years tutoring career at TAMUT, I have managed to isolate the top 5 reasons why the demand for biology tutoring should be higher than it currently is:

1. Biology is a core subject that serves as the foundation for most medical and health related professions

2. Biology is one of the few subjects that teaches applicable knowledge that can be utilized in everyday life

3. Biology has to be understood, not memorized, to be fully mastered and utilized by a student

4. Biology deals with the study of Anatomy and Physiology, which are complex subjects that cannot simply be memorized to be fully understood

5. Biology is a very complex subject that when broken down, each part of it requires an entire semester worth of lecture to be fully understood

To best describe it, Biology is a photo-mosaic that is made up of courses that are unique subjects on its own and all requires full understanding in order to fully understand Biology as a whole. As a Biology graduate, I have witnessed that students cannot simply memorize definitions and descriptions to succeed in any Biology course. Biology is made of courses such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, etc. which are all very complicated courses that must be individually broken down to be fully understood.
