Welcome to our first tutor spotlight where we will be featuring some of our tutors and their clients! This week, meet Rachelle W., one of our Atlanta tutors. Today's post will give you a brief introduction to Rachelle, her interests, and her tutoring experience. Next week, we will feature an interview with Sophie, one of Rachelle's clients, and Irene, Sophie's mother.
Hometown: McDonough, Georgia
Education: Georgia Institute of Technology
Major(s): Biochemistry and Computer Science
FrogTutoring: Why did you choose to become a tutor for Frog Tutoring?
Rachelle: I chose FrogTutoring because it is a company
that is personable and engages their students. I chose to become a tutor
because I am passionate about teaching and I work to inspire students with
curiosity and motivation. My goal is for students to understand the value of
learning and to let go of the mindset that they are learning a lot of useless
knowledge. Nothing in academia is useless and everything we learn has a reason
for it and connects to the real world. Aristotle summed it up nicely,
"Nature does nothing uselessly."
FT: What has been one of your most memorable experiences at FrogTutoring so far?
Rachelle: When my first student got back a high grade he
had never achieved before and he realized his own capabilities and I saw an
immediate increase in his confidence and motivation. It's very rewarding to see
my students succeed because I become very invested in them and to an extent
that first high grade felt like my own.
FT: If you could give a piece of advice to your
students and other FrogTutoring students, what would it be?
Rachelle: "The heights by
great men reached and kept
We’re not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Persevere even when the results don't show right away, Rome
wasn't built in a day and your knowledge of Physics won't be built up in a day
either.
FT: If you could have any person (living, dead, or fictional) as
a tutor, who would it be and why?
Rachelle: I would choose Aristotle, because he believed
that you must educate the heart and the mind, they cannot be separated.
FT: You’re a tutor in Atlanta, GA. What do you think is your
must do/see experience in Atlanta?
Rachelle: Visiting The World of Coke Museum is a must if
you are living in or visiting Georgia, I have been going since I was seven
years old and I still love it.
