Fun Facts
I own a rabbit named Leonard who is very sweet and fun to bring to my classroom to hang out with my students! I love to travel and have been to several countries including Canada, Uganda, South Africa, France, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and Hungary! I like to spend my summers exploring Chicago, being outside, and enjoying free concerts in Millennium Park.
About Me
I am a teacher in Chicago Public Schools for children with moderate to severe disabilities. I have been teaching for 5 years and have loved all the challenges and fun the job has brought. I have my undergraduate degree in education/illinois/chicago">Special Education from Illinois State University and my master's degree in education/illinois/chicago">Special Education with a concentration in teaching children with severe and multiple disabilities from University of Illinois.
Experience
I have been working with children for over 10 years, and have been teaching for 5. Though my focus has been on children with disabilities, I love working with children of all kinds. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, which is a reading intervention program, and has given me so many skills to help children who struggle with reading.
Approach
My experience working with children with the most significant learning and communication needs has helped me to build patience, creative approaches, and a deep understanding for engaging even the most unmotivated child. I strive to find what motivates each child and help integrate that into every chicago">tutoring session. Though I take my position seriously, I feel it is so important to integrate games and engaging concepts to help children develop a love and desire to learn.

English Tutoring

I believe an excellent homework coach finds what motivates the child to help guide the often tough task of homework completion, as well as tying each piece of homework back to classroom lessons and content. An essential piece of homework assistance is helping children organize their materials and teach time management skills to help build independence.

An essential piece of teaching study skills is helping children determine the best way that they learn materials, as well as organizing their materials and teaching time management skills to help build independence.
Writing Tutoring
My special education degrees and my experience as a self contained classroom teacher has given me ample experience in teaching and tutoring writing. I have experience in teaching writers workshop as well as handwriting. I have worked with a variety of writing and handwriting curriculums and intervention techniques to give me a well rounded view of elementary writing. Additionally, I have worked alongside an Occupational Therapist and through consultation time with her, have learned many skills to help children with their handwriting skills and ways to intervene when this is a struggle for children.
