About Me
I'm a 24 year old junior chemistry student at Umass Boston doing research on producing greener antibiotics. I plan to continue my education and obtain my PhD in chemistry before getting a job working on environmental or pharmaceutical research. I was valedictorian in high school, participated in many science and math competitions, and started and edited a high school newspaper. In college, I have been chief technology officer at two tech based start-ups and have held multiple positions/run events for my living groups.
Throughout middle and high school, I often assisted other students during the class sessions. I found that explaining the material helped me understand it on a deeper level and, thus, helped others as often as I could. This eventually led into me boston">tutoring other students after school in Algebra I, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Chemistry. I also helped out at my brother's elementary school a few times, including one time in which I led a class on introductory Russian (alphabet, hello, etc). Education of others has been a continued interest since high school as I have maintained contact with my county's Board of Education President and Superintendent of Schools and discussed with them ways to improve individual classes and a recently started magnet school.
My boston">tutoring approach varies from student to student, with an initial focus on simply reviewing the material and making it accessible through real-world examples/illustrations. Based on these interactions, I then shift focus onto the reasons why things are true/the theory behind what is being studied. This should equip the student with the ability to take on the final step of the process--demonstration of understanding through practice and ability to thoughtfully respond to more abstract questions. This approach is then repeated/modified as needed going into each new subject.
