Fun Facts
One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to play kickball! I'm actually in an adult league that has games every Sunday. I also love to run, hike and be outdoors. My favorite place ever is the beach!
About Me
I am currently a second grade teacher for Craven County Schools. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Slippery Rock University. I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and minor in Exceptionalities (education/north-carolina/charlotte">Special Education). I was a scholar athlete and graduated with honors.
Experience
I have been working with children since I was a Junior in High school. I started off working the Preschool program there. I then majored in Elementary Education in college. Once I graduated from college, I became a substitute teacher in Pennsylvania, tutored and worked at a daycare after school program. I then moved to Virginia and taught second grade for two years. There, I became a military spouse and moved to New Bern, NC, where I have been teaching second grade for 1 year.
Approach
I love to make learning fun and hands-on. That is how I run my classroom and would also run a tutoring session. I like to find out my students' interests to make the learning more enjoyable for the child. I also take into account the child's strengths and weaknesses when planning a lesson. I use positive encouragement, believe in growth mindset and love to celebrate the child's accomplishments.
