Fun Facts
I love to swim and play in the water! I lived for a year and a half in the Philippines and speak Tagalog fluently (but not perfectly)! I love whiteboards, graph paper, and post-it notes.
About Me
I am a graduate student at Brigham Young University in Mathematics Education. I recently graduated from BYU In Mathematics Education with a TESOL certificate (2020) with a 3.81 GPA. I have a Utah State Teaching License. I hope to teach high school or college math in the future, but I also have a passion for curriculum design and development.
Experience
I have been teaching Math and English for over 6 years. From January until March, I taught 8th grade math through student teaching. For the last three years, I have been a teaching assistant for my university's College Algebra course. Before that, I worked in my university's math lab as a calculus tutor. This last year, I taught Adult ESL through the local school district and I volunteered at a local organization meant to help the literacy of ESL members of the community.
Approach
While many math teachers focus on procedures and lists of rules to memorize, it's important for me that students deeply understand the concepts behind the rules. I want to inspire confidence in my students that they can understand the "why" and apply that knowledge to new problems and challenges. I think that I am patient and kind as I encourage students to find the success that they seek.
