Fun Facts
Music, Sports, and Leadership are what get me through the day! Along with studying classical music at The portland">University of Portland, I also spend time playing in my own band (now on itunes!). I really enjoy the details put into music as a whole. On the Sports side of things, I have to root for the Trailblazers in basketball, the Canucks in hockey, and the Giants in baseball. My main sports, though, are Soccer and Springboard diving, so naturally I love me some Timbers, but even more so: SOUNDERS FC
About Me
Hi friends! My name is Felyx Tsoi. Although I was born and raised in washington/seattle">Seattle, Washington, my family (mom, dad, sister, dog, cat) comes from a large Hawaiian community, where 'Ohana' means family (and friends), and family really does mean that 'no one gets left behind.' Although, as a Freshman, I focus on Business and Music at the portland">University of Portland, I've found that helping people has been my bigger picture and what I enjoy doing. I seem to be quite the extrovert and a personable individual, and I am more than ready to be of any help!
As far as experience goes, I've tutored many peers and my sibling in a variety of subjects. I work well in group workshops, but I do find the one on one setting to be the most effective. Apart from just the academic side, I've also have held coaching positions for soccer and have worked as a diving adviser. These training workshops have taught me many things about working with young, learning individuals, from patience and encouragement, to learning from not only successes but hardships as well. In the past I've also worked as a high school orientation leader, and currently volunteer at Astor Elementary as a SMART program reader.
My teaching approach starts with preparation of materials before the scheduled study time. After this, I believe setting goals and benchmarks WITH the student helps him/her stay on track throughout each lesson and subject. In my eyes, some of the most effective techniques include support, encouragement, and setting an open and communication focused environment. This way, any fear of asking questions is eliminated or at the very least, minimized. I am a very laid back person, but I take my position very seriously. So while having fun and laughter in the room is important, I take pride in my responsibility and focus during the study time. portland">Tutoring is a two way street, for not only does the student learn, but the portland">Tutor does as well, whether it's in the subject being taught or increased teaching skills.
