Fun Facts
People quickly learn I am a die hard football fan (specifically of the Buffalo Bills), but also of football strategy and history. The same goes for basketball, rugby, pretty much any sport. I am an avid open mic night performer on guitar and vocals, and love country music. I'm new to Utah but excited to get to know the area. I'm excited to teach one on one
About Me
I am an aspiring actor, with a background as a lawyer and business executive. This broad experience gives me a wide base to draw on to keep students engaged and excited about learning.
Experience
As part of my master's studies in Political Science, I had the opportunity to teach for several semesters as part of a larger lecture class for freshmen. I had four rotating classes and office hours where I helped the students digest the material and get used to life in college. In addition, in my undergraduate studies I had the chance to work with teachers in inner city schools to help younger students (kindergarten - first grade) learn to focus on the lessons at hand.
Approach
There is no perfect or single approach to teaching. Each student will drive what approach is needed. But in all approaches, the key is to tie what the student is learning to something they care about and can engage with. For example, the idea of American Exceptionalism can be tied to many of the issues currently facing America today. How do we relate the historical idea of American Exceptionalism to the world around us now? In addition, the key for each student is to learn exactly how to learn.
