Fun Facts
I love creative writing, and I'm constantly working on my own stories or reading in my spare time! As a volunteer slush pile reader for a literary magazine (I'm one of the first people who read flash fiction submissions), I read a lot of cool new pieces every week.
About Me
As a first-year student in USC's Master of Arts in Teaching program (with a focus on TESOL, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), I hope to become an English Language Development teacher for K-5 students. I grew up in the Midwest, and I did my undergrad in English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Experience
Earlier this year, I volunteered for 826LA, a tutoring program for underserved K-12 students in Echo Park and Mar Vista. I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a third-grade student and develop her reading comprehension and fluency.
I've also had the opportunity to tutor two English learners in English, homework, and ACT prep in the Chicago area as well as to tutor through ABC Boosters, a program for underserved kindergarteners.
Approach
Growing up, I was a very visual and kinesthetic learner. I hope to bring a creative approach to lesson planning by demonstrating problems the tutee can see and touch (instead of only hear).
