Fun Facts

I grew up on the reservation until my freshman year of high school. Once I graduated I got into college on an art scholarship and soon after I married my high school sweetheart.We had three children and being my husband was playing basketball at the college level, after he was done playing at the college level he started playing overseas.So my children and i joined him and lived in many countries.I homeschooled my children while living abroad and that is where I gained my passion for teaching.

About Me

I have been a high school math teacher for 18 years. Unfortunately, I have recently been diagnosed with ALS and so I had to take Disability retirement because going into the classroom would be difficult especially with the current pandemic. I have a great passion for teaching and was very successful in the classroom. I enjoy my students and I use a lot of humor which makes kids relax and want to learn. Being silly works.

Experience

I have taught Algebra 1 and Geometry for 18 years. Before I became a teacher I belonged to a program called H.O.S.T.S., Helping One Student To Succeed. Where twice a week I'd tutor at-risk students and also mentored them. I enjoyed it so much I decided to pursue teaching at schools where many students were at risk of not graduating. I also had homeschooled my children while living overseas and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Approach

As a teacher that has taught in lower-socioeconomic schools, plus I had many of the education/texas/fort-worth">Special Education students in my classroom I found ways to bring out thought processes of students to help them become successful. I enjoy watching students discover new concepts. It helps to build confidence once they see math is not so scary...it's actually a lot of fun.
