Fun Facts

Beyond my academic pursuits, I participate in a diverse range of activities and experiences. A defining passion would be Women's, Gender, and Power studies. I am particularly engaged in trying to understand multiple ways of being, doing, and knowing. I am also particularly interested in Opera Studies, both as an academic pursuit as well as a meaningful activity. I am in the TCU Opera Studio.

About Me

I am a senior Secondary Education, English/LA major at Texas Christian University. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.96 with a major GPA of 4.0. I am a member of the John V. Roach Honors College as well as the TCU Women's Studies program. I am working toward a minor in Women's Studies. As an education major, I would like to teach in my future. As of my current plans, I am going to enter into master's programs and graduate schools directly after graduating from TCU. I am in two leadership programs and am a Clark Scholar.

As an Education major, I have been exposed to both tutoring experiences as well as a deep and rich base of pedagogical knowledge/theoretical frameworks by which I construct meaningful learning opportunities. My first tutoring experience, specifically, in this capacity was the Paschal Writing Camp. My peers and I sought to support and facilitate preparation for the STAAR writing test. We also worked with reading-comprehension/texas/fort-worth">reading comprehension. Also, I have had individual tutoring experiences. I worked with students in the context of reading-comprehension/texas/fort-worth">reading comprehension activities and short writing exercises with specific and varied research-based strategies at Pashcal High School. In addition, I worked with Rosemont 6th grade students to better understand and apply the conventions of exemplary narrative writing.

My tutoring approach is informed by the conceptual base and theoretical frameworks of which I have been exposed in my studies in the College of Education at TCU. Specifically, I approach the learning situation as a means to make meaning, providing learning opportunities that promote a genuine and authentic way of learning. My focus for these opportunities and experiences is centered on critical thinking. It is crucial that meaning is made through critical thinking as opposed to "learning" through a rote series of steps without a deep and rich conceptual understanding, particularly as it relates to reading-comprehension/texas/fort-worth">reading comprehension. Important in my tutoring approach, specifically, is my attention and focus on transfer, or successfully applying learning in various contexts, spaces, and capacities.
