Fun Facts

It is no secret that I take pride in being a cool nerd! I LOVE poetry, philosophy, and debate. Although I totally love learning, I am also very athletic; I have played softball(as a pitcher) since I was six. I am also the second oldest of eight siblings.

About Me

I am a freshman in college, majoring in Secondary English Education with a minor in Spanish and Philosophy. After adjusting to my first quarter in college, I have made the Dean's List! Upon graduation I want to start out by working in CPS as a high school or middle school English teacher while coaching spoken word poetry and debate. In the future, I want to open an all girl school in Mexico and support families who face violence and poverty.

In high school, I was captain of the debate team and spent most of my time teaching philosophy, speech, and rhetoric to novices. While in high school I also held an internship in AP Language and Composition and Advanced Speech. I am currently a part of a volunteer program known as S.O.U.L(Speaking Out as Unified Leaders). We teach creative writing and spoken word poetry to marginalized youth in Chicago every week. I also chicago">tutor English and History to 6th-8th grade students at Langford Academy in Englewood.

In Elementary school I had an IEP for ADD; basics were a struggle for me. But after mastering the basics, I began to realize that I loved to learn and to discover the world. I believe that each student has the potential to master every concept but it is a matter of supporting that student through guidance and patience until they truly comprehend the subject. I empathize with organization and attention issues; so when I chicago">tutor, I try many different teaching methods and make learning fun.
