Fun Facts
I'm a very avid reader, and I especially love World Literature and translation. Translation theory, though a young field, is one of my favorite subjects to study. I'm currently learning the cello, and that is no easy task. I love music and even compose from time to time.
About Me
I'm a current MFA candidate at North Carolina State University. Last May I graduated from Kenyon College with a BA in French and a minor in Arabic. I've been studying creative writing since high school, and though I majored in French I studied literature and composition at a collegiate level. I love teaching and tutoring, and did so throughout college, working with ages ranging from 5 to 22.
Experience
I worked as a freelance tutor in French, English literature and composition for two years during college. Through the Kenyon Review, I hosted after school classes and workshops for middle school and high school aged students. Inspired by that work, I co-founded a publishing press in my junior year and ran writing classes for 2.5 years now. I also worked as a reading and writing tutor for a total of three years to students ages 5 to 9.
Approach
I bring respect first and foremost to lessons. I respect the effort it takes to learn, to struggle, and to succeed. When students feel respected I believe they take bigger risks, and feel more comfortable to not know things and to speak openly about what does and doesn't make sense. Ultimately for me, tutoring and teaching is to benefit the student, so I always cater to students' needs and learning styles when approaching materials. I positively reinforce students, in success and struggle.
