Fun Facts
When my face isn't inside a biology textbook you can find me watching action, comedy, or thriller movies. I love hanging out with friends and walking around Philadelphia which I have called home for 3 years now. In addition, I enjoy traveling and have been to Greece over 10 times in my life.
About Me
I attend Drexel University and will be graduating in June 2014 with a B.S. in biological sciences with a minor in public health. My GPA is currently a 3.82 and I hope to increase it even further by graduation. After college I will be taking a year off of my studies and hope to attend medical school in August of 2015. At Drexel I am a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Vice President of the Biological Honors Society, and lead the biology philadelphia">tutoring program.
I believe I have a unique philadelphia">tutoring experience. I was approached by the biology department to create and administer a philadelphia">tutoring program. From this moment I began to philadelphia">tutor students, either friends or other underclassmen, while simultaneously building a philadelphia">tutoring program to help students struggling in general biology. I have worked closely with faculty and professionals at philadelphia">tutor matching services to learn more about what it means to philadelphia">tutor and how to train others to be philadelphia">tutors. I have organized and ran multiple workshops to teach people how to philadelphia">tutor based on my own experiences and the experiences of fellow philadelphia">tutors, biology faculty, and other professionals. I have now been philadelphia">tutoring for 2 years now and continue to help train philadelphia">tutors become more effective when working with students.
I think the best way to philadelphia">tutor is to create analogies that students can relate to. When students can see a parallel between their subject matter and something completely different that they already understand, they tend to have an easier time absorbing the new information. I believe it is important to guide students to an answer, rather than giving it to them. This means that I focus on comprehension of the material, rather than brute memorization of facts. It is only through understanding material will students be able to remember information for an exam. Since many courses build off of each other, this tactic helps students not only succeed in their current classes but also in their future studies.
