Fun Facts
I was born in Paris but moved by the age of 1! I don't have French citizenship, only U.S. citizenship. I earned my black belt in karate at age 16, and I played on my high school's varsity basketball team starting my sophomore year of high school! I absolutely love comedy and have been part of two comedy groups (improv and sketch comedy). I want to be good at stand-up comedy, but I haven't quite reached my potential there! I do karaoke by myself sometimes, but I prefer to sing with company.
About Me
I graduated from Yale University in 2019 with a degree in African-American studies. I was a co-director of both of my comedy groups. Immediately post-college, I worked as an English tutor teaching all levels of English (elementary to advanced placement); I taught writing, SAT/ACT test prep, poetry, and college essay writing. My ultimate goals are to become a published author, join a new comedy group, and use my degree, skills, and experiences to help continue working towards a more just society.
Experience
Throughout my life, I was a teacher in many ways at different times. When I rose through the ranks as a karate student, it became my responsibility to help teach the lower-level students. I led classes and also gave them more individualized time. I became a teacher once more when I became director of my comedy groups. I managed rehearsals, and when we traveled to teach at schools, I led exercises and workshops. I loved my roles, and I love writing, so I worked at a tutoring company through fall.
Approach
Moments in school when I didn't do well were moments in which my teachers did not provide me with the attention and communication I needed to succeed. I was in fairly big classes, and when I misunderstood a topic, I felt too intimidated to ask questions. Tutoring offers a more personal approach and more potential for safe communication, because it's a tutor's job to support and make students feel safe always. Teaching material is crucial, but a student won't care without the foundation of trust.
