Fun Facts

I am a returning adult student with 4 children. Recently, I moved from the flat suburbs of Chicago, where I have lived all of my life, to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. My favorite thing to do is to spend time in these forested mountains hiking! I have a fear of heights, so I challenge myself to venture into the high elevations and hike in search of one of the many amazing waterfalls in the region.

About Me

I have a background in education and experience in Social Work, where I served women and children experiencing homelessness. Currently, I'm 3 credits away from finishing my English degree with honors, and will continue my education after I graduate to earn my Masters in English with a concentration in Professional/Technical Writing. I would love to combine my passion for helping others with my love of writing to become a grant writer for nonprofits helping those experiencing homelessness.

Experience

As a college honors student, I was invited to tutor students in the writing center, and have tutored a 7th/8th grade student. In addition, I have 4 children with whom I have spent countless hours "tutoring"; 2 teenagers, a college grad and a high school grad. Three of my children have consistently been honor's students (1 a member of the National Honor's Society), while my other has been challenged with ADD and recently graduated! Frog Tutoring gives me the opportunity to keep helping students!

Approach

I love learning, but understand that some lose this through their school years. I've witnessed the frustration of my child who lost that desire -his disorder was preventing him from learning in the way that school teaches. He needed hands-on methods. I adapt my tutoring to each student and their learning style, ask questions to the student to keep them engaged and maintain their curiosity. I aim to see the spark in their eye when they make the connection they struggled with.
