Fun Facts
When my oldest child was 9, I started coaching a Lego robotics team. Eighteen years later, I am still coaching Lego robotics and hold summer camps for Lego robotics and computer programming. It is exciting to see what the kids can learn and many times I learn from them. On what seems the flip side, I live on a hobby farm. I have horses, cows, goats, chickens, pigs, cats, and dogs. Having all those animals means I have the daily chore of feeding them which I mostly enjoy.
About Me
I have a PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University. When I began my PhD, I was a teaching fellow. My bachelor's degree is from Missouri S & T in science/kansas/wichita">computer science. I would really like to work part time as an embedded systems programmer again.
Experience
For over fourteen years, I was an adjunct professor for Wichita State Universtiy. In this setting, I intereacted with students in my class through direct communication, lab sessions, and via internet. I've also taught high school students programming in week long summer camps. For about five years, I was a mentor to a high school robotics team that used C/C++ in their robot.
Approach
I try to figure out where a student is struggling before I start giving instruction. Asking questions to see where they struggle is a starting point. From there, I try to find something they already understand and build on that information. My approach is to build knowledge until they can do their assignments on their own, not just give them answers.
