Fun Facts
I moved to San Diego from Chicago to enjoy the beautiful weather and beaches while in college. I ran cross country and track for 4 years in high school and a year and a half in college, running a mile in 4:16 at the end of my high school career. I'm a complete extrovert and love being in group settings. My passions include running, hiking, tennis, video games, and hanging out with my friends.
About Me
I am a (soon-to-be) senior Structural Engineering major at UC San Diego. I've maintained a 3.8 cumulative GPA and a 3.9 major GPA throughout my first 3 years of college and cannot wait for graduate school! As of now I am planning on getting at least an MS in Structural Engineering, but have aspirations of completing a PhD and ultimately becoming a research professor!
Since my junior year of high school, I have been tutoring students primarily in math and physics. Though I was initially hired to tutor students a few years younger than myself, I eventually began tutoring my peers that shared classes with me. I feel I have proven myself capable of tackling a wide variety of subjects, from the bare bones of Algebra and trigonometry to college level Calculus and Physics. As a student at UC San Diego, I have spent years helping fellow engineers grasp the conceptually-demanding coursework necessary to succeed.
When I tutor other students, I try to dissect where the source of the confusion lies within a particular problem or concept by asking lots of questions up front. I then try to resolve issues as visually as possible as I feel most people learn well this way. I draw diagrams and graphs if necessary to convey concepts. I routinely ask if what I am doing makes sense to the student before progressing further. Often, I will ask the student what they think should be the next logical step to get us closer to the solution. My tutoring process never starts at the solution as I believe it detracts from the student's understanding of the material. I have seen this process work with most people I have had the pleasure of helping, grounding my confidence in it's effectiveness.
