Fun Facts
I was originally born Saigon, Vietnam but immigrated over to America in 2000. Since then, I spend much of my time either studying, hiking, going to the gym, or simply hanging out with my friends. I enjoy trying new foods and hiking mountains that I've never hiked before. I also break dance every now and then as a small hobby!
About Me
I am a first year undergraduate student studying Structural Engineering with a focus in Civil Structures at the University of California, San Diego. I am currently involved in the Society of Civil and Structural Engineers and plan to join the Steel Bridge Design Team in the upcoming Fall. I am also the Historian, MGC Delegate, and Fall 2015 Recruitment Chair for Pi Alpha Phi. When I graduate, I intend to pursue a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering and eventually, begin my career as a Structural Engineer.
At Patrick Henry High School, I was a school tutor during my Junior year for Mathematics, English, and Chemistry. I tutored various students one-on-one in these subjects and helped them prepare for exams. During my Senior year, I joined Link Crew; a student organization that focused on helping freshmen adapt to the rigor of high school. Through this organization, I tutored freshmen in all the classes that I have taken before. I also did specialized tutoring in Calculus and actively participated in multiple study sessions held by Link Crew.
I believe that the hardest part of learning is understanding the concept. When I tutor, I tend to focus on helping the student understand the conceptual side of the problem and answer any questions related to concepts. I then proceed to give multiple examples and real-world applications as to help the student visualize the situation. I do not believe in simply 'plugging and chugging' as that is pure memorization. I believe that once the student learns all the concepts, they will be able to solve every problem thrown at them.
