Fun Facts

It's extremely necessary to have a well balanced life. Besides working hard in studies, I am very passionate about fitness. I play tennis, swim, weight lift, kick box, and I am also a very active member at my local sports club. As an aspiring doctor, I know the importance of not just preaching a healthy lifestyle to patients, but also doing it. I also enjoy traveling and baking.

About Me

I go to Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, a 7 year BS/MD program at City College of NY. I am currently ending my third year and will graduate in Spring 2016. I aspire to become an OB/Gyn because I want to get the feeling of being a primary care physician as well as a surgeon, the best of both worlds. I have received the National Merit Scholarship Award (from Collegeboard based on my PSAT performance). I am the current president of the Desi Movie & Dance Association, a club I started 2 years ago.

I have a plethora of tutoring experience. I was a tutor (in math and science) and study planner at Kumon Learning Center from 2007-2011. I also graded homework, classwork, and entered the data in the programs. Additionally, I was a private tutor in 2008-2010 in biology, chemistry, earth science, and algebra. I volunteered as a tutor in Bronx High School of Science for biology and precalculus. I pursued tutoring heavily because I really enjoyed teaching others. I had great joy in spreading my knowledge in areas I was strong in. I was tutored in my weak areas and gained much respect for my tutors. The respect in teaching and helping others is something I believe is incomparable.

I have learned that in tutoring, patience is key. Sometimes, anxiety and the pressure of getting the right answer or solving things quickly controls the students’ thinking process, hindering them from their full potential. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to let the students know that there is nothing wrong with that. It is imperative to not intimidate the students and make sure they are comfortable. As for learning strategies, repetition is very important. When introducing a new or difficult concept, it is necessary to repeat materials. Before that, however, making sure the students understand the fundamental concepts behind it is crucial. Challenging them is also crucial because it helps the students develop more complex thinking skills.
