Fun Facts
Hi! My name's Rachael, and I have just finished my undergraduate degree at the redlands">University of Redlands; a mega-small private school in the greater LA area. I danced on my university's Dance Company for three years, and played softball year-round for the previous thirteen years. Being recruited for softball was actually how I ended up at Redlands.
My dogs name is Orion, but we call him Ory. He came from the shelter I was volunteering at for a while. He is a german shepherd and the love of my life
About Me
I just graduated from the redlands">University of Redlands with a Bachelor of Science in physics, and a math minor. I graduated Suma Kum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with Departmental Honors. My GPA Is somewhere about a 3.85, and I was on the Deans List every semester at school. In the Fall I am moving to Massachusetts to begin a PhD program in Medical Physics (yep, it's a real field!) I'm hoping to go into radiation/proton therapy or diagnostic imaging. I have a teaching assistantship for the first two years at UMASS, then I will continue on to a research assistantship where I will likely do research at Massachusetts General Hospital under Harvard faculty.
I tutored primarily Calculus, and in both group and individual settings while I was at U of R. I also tutored an abstract geometry/topology class called the Shape of the Universe. I have also been a Peer Advisor for both my years as an upperclassman for two of the professors int he math department. It was a really cool experience because I was able to get to know a specific class of freshmen, register them for classes, and be one of the first upperclassmen they really connect with on campus.
I highly encourage asking questions and student involvement in the learning process. You don't learn if I just tell you how to do the problem over and over again. I really want you to tell me if even after six times going through something you still don't understand. Getting embarrassed about it still doesn't get the information in your head. Developing that gut feeling and correct intuition of the basics of problems will help guide you on the more difficult ones so I really think practice makes perfect, and not spending hours reading through the textbook. That's what I'm here for after all!
