Fun Facts
I LOVE reading! Literacy is my passion and I love finding books that represent students I am teaching. Books are amazing and I love learning new words! In my free time, I enjoy reading.
About Me
I am a graduating senior at Morgan State University. I graduate in December with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education! I hope to teach in Baltimore City Public Schools upon graduation. I aspire to attend Towson University's graduate Reading Education Program for my M.Ed in Reading Education. My ultimate goal is to work on reading curriculum for an inner city school district.
Experience
As an elementary education major, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Reading Partners in Baltimore City and read books and complete reading comprehension exercises with students. Recently, I had the opportunity to learn the Orton-Gillingham methods to teach children with dyslexia how to read. After learning those methods, I was able to join the Orton-GIllingham Tutoring program where I was able to implement what I learned.
Approach
As a child and even as a student now, I find it helpful when what I am learning is completely broken down and when teacher scaffold for me. As a tutor, I have found it beneficial to utilize the "I do, We do, You do" method to teach my brilliant students. Scaffolding is an amazing approach to learning because it gives the students a framework to learn from.
