I am an early literacy tutor, trained in remedial reading.
I especially love to work with young kids-ages K-2.

About Me

I am an empty nestser, with two adult kids. One just graduated with highest honors from Michigan. The other is on a scholarship at USC. I served as an AmeriCorps member with DC Reading Corps, working daily with kids at risk of reading failure. I now tutor kids who are at home online learning in DC. I make learning sounds and reading passages fun and positive. I look forward to helping more kids fee accomplished and curious to learn more!

Experience

I tutored students in remedial reading in DCPS in Washington, DC. I also led small group literacy circles for students in grades 2 and 3. Currently, I tutor children who are learning online during the pandemic.

Approach

My children were my first students and I spent their early years reading and singing to them, doing finger plays and making rhymes. Learning should be relaxed and fun. With younger children I use finger puppets and sing nursery rhymes. With older kids, I encourage curiosity and playing with language and words. My goal is to have them want to read more than they want to play video games. A daunting challenge!
