Fun Facts

An interesting fact about me is that I fenced competitively for six years, and I traveled extensively around the country to participate in tournaments. One of my favorite locations to visit is Powell's Books in Oregon. Alongside my passion for sports, I enjoy writing short stories and haikus in my free time. I find nature walks with a small notebook in hand to be an ideal weekend outing. Another favorite pastime of mine is to walk my Plott-hound named Asha at the beach.

About Me

My name is Emily Daza, and I am a sophomore double majoring in Finance and Management at the University of San Francisco. I am a University Scholar and member of the Honors College and St. Ignatius Institute. I have been on the Dean's Honor Roll twice during my freshman year, and I intend on continuing to strive for academic excellence in my college career. When I graduate, I would like to further my education at a master's level, and one day work at a technology company in Silicon Valley.

Experience

During high school, I had the opportunity to tutor elementary school students in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing through the Summer Reader Leader Program at my local library. I received training in all of the listed disciplines. I have also taken three leadership courses through edX and Catalyst. My objective is to continue to positively impact the lives of the students I tutor and ultimately, equip them with the skills needed to academically succeed.

Approach

In middle school and high school, I attended an accredited online private school called springs">Laurel Springs. My approach to education has been greatly shaped by my experiences as a distance learning student. I believe that every student has potential and an important factor in education is one's willingness and desire to learn. In my tutoring sessions, I attempt to bring a positive and inspiring attitude toward learning. It is my responsibility as a tutor to promote academic success and integrity.
