Fun Facts

One fun fact about me is that I am a fraternal twin! I absolutely love music, and play a few instruments and sing when time allows it. I also love learning new languages, and recently came back from a year of study abroad in Tokyo, Japan, where I was able to enrich my learning experience and foster my love for travel.

About Me

I am currently a senior English Major with a concentration in Language and Linguistics at Pace University. After graduation in the spring, I would like to continue to get a(n) (English) Linguistics graduate degree abroad, hopefully at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea. From there, I would like to look into either continuing on to get my doctorate in linguistics, or work abroad teaching English or in a translation/interpreter position.

Experience

In my sophomore year, I had the chance to volunteer tutor through Upwards Bound at Pace University. I was able to work with one student for the year (October '18-May '19), focusing mainly on English language/comprehension skills for both homework assignments and AP English/AP World history essay drafting and preparation. In Tokyo, I was a volunteer who worked with English speaking, reading, and comprehensions skills for the students at Musashi University for a semester.

Approach

With the students I worked with, I found the most important thing was making sure they are comfortable. If the students aren't, I feel it is harder to be able to connect with them and understand what they need help with. Then, I can approach their coursework in a way that addresses their needs and help. I often have found with English reading comprehension that explaining them in a modern, common dialect (sometimes even using 'slang') helps with understanding older versions of the language.
