Fun Facts

I've been passionate about art since I was a child, and I hope to foster that creative spirit in the students I work with. In my spare time, I create collages out of newspaper and magazine clippings centered around pressing social and political topics. Juxtaposing different pieces of information and images helps me to see what's going on in the world in a fresh, unique light. I also love to paint, and I am currently working on portrait of my adorable dog, Luna! I also enjoy writing poetry.

About Me

I studied English Language & Literature at the maryland">University of Maryland, College Park. I graduated among the top 16 students in my class, with cum laude honors and an award for academic excellence in English. I tutor in English, various styles of writing, reading comprehension, communication skills, and various humanities subjects. By fostering curiosity, motivation, and sound executive functioning skills, I can help students navigate the changing educational landscape.

Experience

In college, I was a reading tutor with Reading Partners DC, where I conducted weekly one-on-one sessions with elementary school students. I also interned in a 9th grade English class, where I created and delivered lessons about creative writing, and worked with students to develop their own creative projects. In my final year at UMD, I was a teaching assistant for a professional writing course. I edited student writing for content and clarity, and delivered original lessons to the class.

Approach

In order to motivate students, we must show them how the topics they study are relevant to the world around them. Educators need to consider the "so what" factor when teaching students new concepts. I teach my students that a sound grasp of the English language, strong reading comprehension skills, and eloquent writing and communication skills are invaluable to success of any kind. I relate lessons in literature to historical and current events so that students can think critically and globally.
