About Me
I am a graduate of UC San Diego with an overall GPA of 3.495. I have a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with tracks in Anthropology and Political Science, and a concentration in Latin America, with a GPA of 3.628; and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics, with a concentration in Spanish, with a GPA of 3.383. I studied abroad in Spain and was co-chair of our ballet folklorico dance group at UCSD. My career goals include working for the United Nations in one of its humanitarian organizations.
While in Spain, I taught, tutored, and created lesson plans for four separate English classes, of about 10 students each, ages 17-45. I ensured that all students were engaged and participating in class. I recorded and reported attendance to the Linguistics Department of the University of Barcelona. I also, privately taught two children (ages 2 & 3) English and I ensured that they were both engaged.
Firstly, I assess the level of the student in the subject area. Then, I create activities or use the activities provided to challenge the student. I make sure that the activity is not too difficult so that the student cannot complete it. Instead, I ensure that the student feels confident enough to complete the task, but is also challenged by it and s/he will learn from it. I try to let the student do most of the thinking as I believe with this approach the student will feel that s/he has accomplished something by generating the answer on her/his own. Then, if the student needs help answering, I try to guide her/him to the right answer, but also try to make sure s/he is finding the answer on her/his own so as to build confidence.
