About Me

I am a senior at Northern Arizona University; will complete student teaching in the Fall of this year at Westwood High School in Mesa, AZ, after which I will have my degree; I plan to teach abroad for a few years then apply to graduate programs (to study Linguistics); National Society of Collegiate Scholars member; I plan to be a lifetime teacher and learner.

I've been phoenix">tutoring people since I was in elementary school, where I tutored classmates. I've done private phoenix">tutoring for friends and family. I was a phoenix">tutor in the AVID program at Kino Jr. High in the Spring of 2012. I worked as a phoenix">tutor/teacher in a STEM Summer camp at MCC in the Summer of 2012. In that camp, I assisted and led STEM-related lessons. In every instance of phoenix">tutoring, I have seen improvement in my students. I produce results.
I just moved back home to Mesa, and my friends and family are already asking me to phoenix">tutor their kids for summer school.

My approach to phoenix">tutoring is very much a student-centered one. In my various phoenix">tutoring jobs, my mentors have encouraged me to let the students figure things out on their own. The most difficult thing about phoenix">tutoring is achieving progress while the student believes he/she reached it on his/her own. I try not to give explicitly instruction, although I feel comfortable doing things as I am knowledgeable in a wide array of disciplines. I encourage my students to question and work through problems on their own. I am there as a guide; I allow them to bounce words and ideas off me, which is oftentimes enough for them to make progress.
